An EV can work well when you have reliable charging and local support for the exact model. A hybrid can suit drivers who cannot charge consistently. Confirm import classification before budgeting
Curaçao Customs publishes the tariff, and the applicable code depends on the exact vehicle. A 2026 court decision, ECLI:NL:OGEAC:2026:26, classified one mild hybrid at 10% rather than 27%; it is not a universal hybrid rate. The Tax Department states that the 9% turnover-tax rate applies to motor vehicles. Ask Customs for written classification of the exact specification before importing. Does an EV work on a small island?
Range: compare your longest regular day, detours, AC use and battery reserve with the vehicle's realistic range. Do not rely only on the advertised test-cycle figure.
Charging network: the D-POINT operator advertises more than 50 stations across four Dutch Caribbean islands, not Curaçao alone. Check the live map, connector, access and price for the sites you would actually use.
Home charging: have a qualified installer confirm the electrical supply, earthing, circuit protection, connector and equipment approved for the vehicle and property. Without dependable home or workplace charging, test the public-charging routine before buying.
