Motor vehicles in Curaçao follow a periodic government-inspection schedule. An appointment is mandatory and the official page publishes the fees, payment methods and vehicle categories. A valid inspection card confirms compliance at the inspection date; it is not a substitute for an independent condition check when buying. See the complete buying guide.
Inspections take place at the UOVV Keuringslokaal, Parera z/n in Willemstad. UOVV (Uitvoeringsorganisatie Verkeer en Vervoer) is the government body responsible for vehicle registration, inspections and plates.
Frequency (official schedule): passenger cars, rental cars and motorcycles every 2 years; public-transport vehicles, tow trucks, trucks and loaders every year. Whether a pick-up falls in the annual category depends on how it is registered, check with UOVV.
Cash is not accepted (since 1 October 2019), pay by card at the counter, by deposit to the UOVV's Banco di Caribe account, or via MCB online banking (biller "UOVV"). And since 8 July 2025 the Keuringslokaal no longer makes photocopies: bring your own copies of all documents.
The official page does not publish a component-by-component checklist. It states that the vehicle must meet the inspection requirements and that a failed vehicle receives an afkeuringsbewijs listing the reasons. Treat a pass as evidence of the official result on that date, not as a warranty of mechanical condition. For a purchase, arrange a separate inspection covering the engine, transmission, cooling, suspension, steering, underbody, corrosion and maintenance; use our used-car checklist.
Run a sensible roadworthiness check before the appointment: test lights, horn and wipers; check tires and mirrors; look for warning lights and visible leaks; and bring every document/copy listed by UOVV. This is preparation advice, not the official inspection checklist.
A pass earns you the voertuigkeuringskaart, used in the next insurance and road-tax steps. Road tax has its own official tariff table; confirm the category for your vehicle with the Belastingdienst. A fail comes with an afkeuringsbewijs listing the reasons. Fix them and return within 30 days for the XCG 10 re-inspection.
