Third-party motor liability insurance is mandatory in Curaçao. Arrange cover after the inspection card is in your name and before driving or paying road tax. Compare the insured risks and exclusions, not just the premium.
WA (third-party liability) covers damage you cause to other people or property, within the policy terms and insured sum. It does not cover damage to your own car.
WA plus limited casco can add named risks such as theft, fire, glass or storm. Covered events vary by product.
Full casco/all risk can add accidental damage to your own car, including some at-fault incidents. Deductibles, driver restrictions, valuation, exclusions and benefit limits still apply.
Ask for the policy wording and schedule before paying. Compare liability limit, vehicle valuation, deductible, named/permitted drivers, theft conditions, wind/storm/flood wording, roadside assistance, repair network, replacement transport, geographic cover and claims requirements.
The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten publishes a registry of supervised institutions. Its December 2025 registry includes multiple motor insurers. Verify the legal insurer, not only the broker or sales brand, and check the latest registry before purchase.
Request comparable quotes using the same vehicle value, drivers and coverage. Premiums depend on the risk and applicant, so a generic price range is not reliable.
Follow your insurer's instructions immediately after an incident. ENNIA's current accident page directs drivers to Forensys and lists locally and from abroad. Make the location safe, do not admit liability, photograph vehicles and surroundings when safe, and collect other-party and witness details. Do not move or repair the car until the insurer or reporting service says you may, unless safety requires it.
Save the insurer's emergency number and Forensys number before driving. Claims can be delayed or reduced if reporting instructions are not followed.
If you are moving from the Netherlands, ask your current insurer for a claims/bonus-malus statement before cancelling. Inter-Assure states that it can use Dutch Roy-data information. Acceptance and discount are insurer-specific, so send the document to each insurer before comparing final premiums.
Estimate what loss you could absorb yourself. For an older low-value car, WA may be proportionate. For a car you could not afford to replace, or one exposed to theft or weather risks, casco may be worth comparing. A lender may impose insurance conditions, so read the finance agreement before selecting cover.
